  Job Description
It’s managing the treasures that shape history and safeguarding them for the future.

It’s playing a vital role in the transformation of the Royal Archives, ensuring that invaluable records are preserved for generations to come. This is what makes a career with the Royal Household so unique.

As an Archivist at the heart of the Royal Archives, you’ll help ensure the care and stewardship of millions of documents that form the official and personal archives of the Sovereign and Members of the Royal Family. Reporting to the Senior Archivist, you’ll support the planning and preparation for the move to new purpose-built storage, ensuring the highest standards of archival practice are followed.

Key Responsibilities:
• You’ll contribute to the professional management of collections, playing a key role in the successful transition to new, purpose-built storage.
• You’ll ensure the accurate and timely creation of records in the Royal Archives cataloguing system.
• You’ll oversee the re-housing of archive collections, ensuring they are properly preserved and cared for.
• You’ll assist in processing of archival collections, ensuring all activities adhere to international standards and established procedures.
• You’ll help uphold high standards of security, preservation, and public access to sensitive archival materials, safeguarding them for future generations.
• You’ll work with the Royal Archives team to maintain the integrity and accessibility of the archives, ensuring consistency and excellence in all activities.

  Required Skills / Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
• With significant knowledge of archival activities gained through post-graduate education or professional experience, you’ll bring an understanding of best practices in collection management.
• You’ll have a background in re-housing archival collections, accessioning, cataloguing, and managing archives in accordance with established standards and procedures.
• Your strong IT skills, including expertise with Office applications and cataloguing software, will ensure efficient and accurate archive management.
• With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you’ll be able to effectively convey complex archival information to colleagues and stakeholders.
• Your ability to work independently and as part of a small team, paired with your keen attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, will enable you to manage tasks with precision.
• Familiarity with CALM cataloguing software would be an added advantage, however not essential.
