  Job Description
You will be working from Helmsley Archaeology Store directly with our collections and will be required to make journeys to sites, stores and offices throughout England.

You will help to ensure that the National Heritage Collection is documented to appropriate national and international standards to support collections development. You will work alongside a number of teams including Curators, Collections Officers and volunteers. You will be responsible for specified documentation priorities, advocate and support improving and enhancing data, support internal training and develop expertise in specified areas of collection documentation.

What you’ll be doing as part of the team
1. You will ensure the legal requirement to maintain good data relating to the collections and interiors.
2. You will implement documentation work outlined in the National Documentation Strategy, working to priorities as agreed with the Collections Documentation Manager and wider Collection Curatorial team, supporting national requirements including re-presentation and research projects, collections moves and backlog legacy reconciliation.
3. You will assist with related aspects of Acquisitions, Disposals and Loans, supporting accurate Registry and documentation.
4. You will take responsibility for specific process and procedures and support the delivery of related data and standards.
5. You will help to train Curatorial and other interested colleagues to understand the benefits and how to use our collections management system.
6. You will support external access to English Heritage data, such as Art UK, Museum Data Service and the Archaeological Data Service.
7. You will investigate and resolve documentation discrepancies and research the records to enhance the information they contain.
8. You will provide appropriate levels of support to volunteers.
9. You will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of yourself and reporting any concerns in a timely manner to the relevant member of staff.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
Essential experience
• Experience of carrying out museum documentation across a wide range of collections, object handling, packing, movement, entry and exit procedures.
• Experience working across curatorial disciplines and with volunteers.
• Experience of using a museum Collections Management System (for example MimsyXG).
• Experience of using Microsoft Excel.

Essential skills / Knowledge / Qualifications
• Knowledge of documentation standards for museum collections such as SPECTRUM.
• An understanding of Safety & Risk management when working with collections.
• An understanding of handling hazards in museums collections.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent Word, Excel and data entry skills.
• Ability to communicate information clearly, concisely and authoritatively to specialists and non-specialists.
• An ability to effectively manage multiple work streams.
• An ability to problem solve.

This role requires frequent travel to sites that are often in remote locations, so a full driving licence is advantageous. Occasional overnight stays away from home will also be required.
This role requires a basic DBS check.
