The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future - using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Our Vision is to inspire everyone with the RAF story – the people who shape it and its place in our lives.

We have two public sites (London and Midlands) and a stored collection (Stafford). Our trading company and active fundraising supplement Grant in Aid which comes through the Ministry of Defence.

The Royal Air Force Museum is a Carbon Literate organisation and as such promotes Carbon Literacy.

We are looking for an experienced Head of Major Projects and Programmes to join the Museum team at an exciting time as we deliver the £28M Inspiring Everyone: RAF Museum Development Programme, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

You will lead and champion the delivery of this programme and agreed major projects to budget, defined deadlines and to the highest quality standards.

You will use effective communications to ensure that our internal and external stakeholders are kept up to date and engaged with our programmes.

The role will be based at our Midlands site working across all three Museum sites as required.

  Required Skills / Qualifications
• Demonstrable experience in developing, project managing and delivering major projects (capital and engagement activity) in a museum or heritage environment.
• Demonstrable experience in project budget setting and management with budgets of more than £5M.
• Demonstrable experience of leading and managing complex teams of direct reports, indirect reports and contractors.
• Demonstrable experience in following an audience-focused approach, including evaluation, in shaping project outcomes.
• Knowledge of current H&S regulations.
• Advanced Microsoft Office (MS Word and MS Excel) software skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to produce, analyse and report on financial information, management accounts and business risk.
• Ability to make judgements and recommendations involving the analysis and interpretation of complex situations and information.
