Job Description: |
The Senior Conservator: Western Art on Paper is an important role within the Collection Care department at the British Museum. This role is an exciting opportunity to join a world renowned institution and contribute towards maintaining and developing a world class collection.
The successful candidate will have a recognised professional conservation qualification to at least degree level or equivalent experience with this specialism, with demonstrable practical skills in conservation. You will have excellent knowledge of contemporary principles and practice in preventive conservation and of current conservation practise and ethical standards. As our expert in Western Art on Paper Conservation, you will act as conservation exhibition and loan liaison. You will lead in the care of the Western Art collection through a combination of interventive and preventative measures that support the Museums overall operating plan and will proactively engage with public outreach activities.
Key areas of responsibility:
• To advise on conditions and prepare objects for loans, exhibitions and display
• To motivate and develop other staff
• To advise others regarding specialism
• To act as conservation exhibition and loan liaison and member of the core project teams as necessary, contributing to exhibition delivery and providing conservation expertise, ensuring effective delivery to time and budget.
• To care for the collection through documentation, surveys, data collection, analysis and support at public events.
