Responsible for: Curator Natural History, Conservation Officer, Documentation Assistant, Archivist. Consultants, Interns, and Volunteers attributed to the Collections Department

Job Purpose:
The Head of Collections is a key member of the museum team undertaking a wide range of tasks with overall management and care of collections, and day to day responsibility for the collections team in their work of conservation, documentation, exhibitions and collections related engagement activities.

The post holder is a member of the Senior Management Team and will work collaboratively with other Heads of Department to improve and expand cross-departmental work on projects, as well as driving forward work to deliver the strategic vision of the museum. You will be committed to development and delivery of transformational change as part of the ‘reimagining’ project.

The post holder will also work collaboratively with external partners and community representatives.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
You will be a team player who can work with the other members of the Senior Management Team (SMT) to improve and expand cross-departmental work on projects, and manage day-to-day activities. You will have a flexible, pragmatic approach to work, be a keen problem solver, and be proactive and confident working with colleagues across the museum, and a wide variety of external stakeholders.

You will have excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines, develop the specialist team, manage creative and practical projects and departmental resources, and prioritize correctly and in line with the wider goals of the Museum. You will need a commitment to driving change as part of the 'Reimagining the Museum' project.

Training: A Professional Development Plan will be agreed with the Director. This will include training, mentoring and new professional opportunities.

Interview type: Interviews will be in person.

The interview will include a traditional question style, a presentation by you, and a walk and talk where you will meet other colleagues.

Reasonable interview expenses will be paid.
