Job Description |
|
You will hold responsibility for the day-day running of the Wrest Park hub store facility as well as satellite stores in the region. You will ensure safe access, accurate record keeping, exemplary collection management and facility management. You will work closely with colleagues to process acquisitions and disposals. You will manage object movement and transport, store improvements and supervise research access. You will also manage collections volunteers.
What you’ll be doing as part of the team:
1. You will help to implement specified aspects of English Heritages national stores plan relating to your assigned hub and satellite stores.
2. You will ensure safe working within the Hub facility including Prime checks, site induction, hazard registers, IEP, risk management, equipment checks and contractor access.
3. You will manage all object movements into, out of and within the stores and ensure they are appropriately documented.
4. You will process all archaeological depositions, other acquisition, and disposal activity.
5. You will ensure collections are appropriately stored in consultation with the Conservation team.
6. You will identify rationalisation opportunities and carry them out according to agreed programmes in conjunction with the relevant curator.
7. You will oversee prioritised documentation within your collection area and implement agreed audit work.
8. You will facilitate and supervise research access to stored collections.
9. You will deliver talks, tours and community activities within the Hub Store.
10. You may manage and supervise Collection Volunteers
You will manage our stored collections and facilitate access to the National Heritage Collection as part of a team of Collections Officers under the line managment of our Collections Manager. |

Required Skills / Qualifications |
|
Essential experience
• Experience working with a wide range of museum collections with experience with documentation, object handling, packing and movement.
• Experience in facility management, implementing safety and risk and managing contractors.
• Experience working across disciplines and teams, at different levels.
• Experience coordinating volunteers.
• Experience of using a museum Collections Management System (for example MimsyXG)
• Experience delivering training.
Essential skills / Knowledge / Qualifications
• Experience working or volunteering in the museums sector with demonstrable collections management responsibilities
• An understanding of safety and risk management.
• An understanding of environmental and security considerations in relation to collections storage, care and protection.
• An understanding of issues relating to storage, display and transport of museum collections.
• An understanding of hazards in museum collections.
• Knowledge of Collections Management policies such as SPECTRUM.
• Highly creative with a demonstrable ability to problem solve and effectively manage multiple work streams.
• Excellent Word, Excel and data entry skills.
• Ability to communicate information clearly, concisely and authoritatively.

Additional circumstance to consider:
• This role requires frequent travel to sites that are often in remote locations and so a full driving licence is required.
• Occasional overnight stays away from home will also be required.
• This role will require a full DBS check.
• This role will require the use of heavy machinery (FLT) and involve manual handling within safe systems of work |
