  Job Description
Generally
Candidates should ideally have proven experience of working on bindings and manuscripts from diverse traditions, including Islamic, Western and East Asian. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a small conservation team and report to the Head of Conservation.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
• Performing and documenting conservation treatments on selected items within the collections according to the agreed programme by the Head of Conservation
• Preparing and treating collections so that they can be made available for exhibitions, loans, digitisation, Reader Requests and research
• Undertaking condition surveys and report writing; inputting conservation information and treatments into the Collections Management System
• Assisting with the installation of exhibitions and the rotation of collection items on display in the permanent galleries
• Acting as a courier, when requested, to Borrowing institutions
• Working with and facilitating contract conservator assisting with the Environmental Monitoring programme
• Supervising interns and students in the Conservation Studio, as requested by the Head of Conservation
• Working as an effective team member and collaborate across the museum to achieve the goals set by the annual Strategic Implementation Plan
• Carrying out technical research, under supervision of the Head of Conservation, to increase the body of knowledge about the collections
• Communicating effectively across verbal, digital and written communications; participating in peer networks, public programming and outreach activities
• Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of Conservation and/or Head of Collections
  Required Skills / Qualifications
• A Master’s degree in book, and or, paper conservation, or appropriate equivalent work experience
• A minimum of three years’ satisfactory post-qualification practical experience of book, and or, paper conservation
• A good understanding of conservation standards, ethics and best practice
• Comprehensive knowledge of treatment methods, materials, preventive conservation principles and methodology
• Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, making sound and informed judgements and delivering high quality work
• Good IT/Computer/Digital skills to enable delivery of reports, presentations and contribute to the museum's social media activity
• Must be flexible with an ability able to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment
• Good communicator and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively at all levels, both internally and with external contacts
• Enthusiastic about development opportunities, demonstrating a positive attitude, openness to feedback and willingness to learn
• Eligible to work in Ireland
• Ideally able to start as soon as possible
