  Job Description
It’s carefully reviving pieces rich in history.

It’s being trusted to deliver. And it’s the satisfaction of caring for an irreplaceable collection. This is what makes a career with the Royal Household so different.

The range of furniture in the Royal residencies is extensive and contains many unique pieces that display the skill of craftsmen from across the centuries. A lot of items are in regular use, and you’ll join our team of experts who ensure they are properly conserved, whilst also kept in good working order.

Joining our talented upholstery and soft furnishings team, you’ll work on a wide range of traditionally upholstered furniture projects.

Based at our workshops in Windsor, but also working across sites with items in situ, the rich diversity of conservation and restoration needs will stretch you and provide opportunities to utilise and develop your practical skills.

Key Responsibilities:
• You’ll be involved in the production of varied traditional upholstery schemes, considering latest industry methods, quality standards, comfort and the timescales needed to ensure beautiful results every time.
• Drawing on your expertise, you’ll evaluate and appropriateness of existing upholstery schemes, recommending treatment plans and working with colleagues to agree approaches. You’ll liaise with colleagues to understand wider operational needs and work collaboratively to balance conservation and restoration projects with the busy activities of the working palaces.
• Working as part of a team, you’ll help maintain and upkeep specialist tools and equipment, undertake risk assessments, monitor health and safety compliance, and ensure the workshop is kept in good working order.
• With a passion for conservation, you’ll keep up to date with best practice and be keen to share your knowledge and skills with colleagues.

Above all, you’ll derive great satisfaction knowing that you're helping to preserve a collection that will be enjoyed by future generations.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
• Experienced in traditional upholstery and soft furnishings, you’ll be confident in working on complex projects, applying your skilled craftsmanship.
• As a skilled practical problem solver, you can assess objects and suggest innovative solutions to restore them back to working condition.
• With meticulous attention to detail, you always achieve the highest standard of finish.
• With excellent time management skills, you’ll be able to prioritise your workload, judge timescales and manage deadlines. And with a flexible approach, you’ll be able to adapt to changing circumstances effectively.
• Excellent communication skills, confident in liaising with a broad spectrum of colleagues and specialists in their field.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with others in your team to deliver projects.

Above all, your passion for your craft will inspire your team to deliver the highest level of care.
