Project and Development Manager
Wheal Martyn Clay Works
An exciting opportunity at Wheal Martyn Clay Works – Cornwall’s china clay mining museum, to deliver a range of work to develop and deliver projects which support the museums development and resilience. The post is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of our Readying Wheal Martyn for the Future project.
A key part of the role is to project manage the delivery of capital works to repair the roof and stabilise the structure of a historic clay works building, part of the Scheduled Ancient Monument at Wheal Martyn. These works are to be delivered with funding from Arts Council England’s Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND).
The role also includes work to develop other key projects at Wheal Martyn such as restoration of the waterwheel and development of creative workshop facilities, as well as lead the review of the museums Masterplan, Interpretation Strategy and Access Review.
The post is part of a wider project which includes developing the museums volunteer workforce and digital fundraising (delivered by others) however the successful applicant will be responsible for funding claims and reporting for the wider project.
The successful candidate will have strong project management skills, with evidence of prior successful grant funding, networking and consultation skills, a great verbal and written communicator and ideally an understanding of built heritage.
Wheal Martyn is the UK’s only china clay museum, established in 1975 by the producers of china clay in Cornwall to preserve and make accessible the heritage of Cornwall’s largest mining industry. Set in 26 acres, including a preserved Victorian clay works, the accredited museum cares for a significant object and archive collection and offers a wide range learning, engagement and volunteering opportunities.
